Terms of Use
1. Who we are
Data Products Factory is a product of DataColada. All rights reserved. We package authoritative Australian government datasets as developer-friendly APIs and public-facing data products. Our charity intelligence product is built on publicly available data published by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
2. Data sources and licensing
Charity register information and financial data are sourced from the following datasets, published by the ACNC and the Commonwealth of Australia:
ACNC Registered Charities Dataset — updated quarterly. Published under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia (CC BY 3.0 AU) licence. © Commonwealth of Australia. View dataset →
Annual Information Statement (AIS) 2024 Dataset — self-reported financial and operational data submitted by registered charities to the ACNC. Published under CC BY 3.0 AU licence. © Commonwealth of Australia. View dataset →
The ACNC does not endorse Data Products Factory or DataColada, and is not responsible for the scores, ratings, analysis, or AI-generated content on this platform.
3. How scores are computed
Credibility and Transparency scores are derived from the ACNC registered charities dataset (updated quarterly). They reflect information such as registration status, revocation history, ABN validation, charity size reporting, and completeness of public profile.
Financial Health, Govt Dependency, and Volunteer Intensity scores are derived from the AIS 2024 dataset. They are computed using percentile-ranked window functions across approximately 53,000 reporting charities. Charities classified as Basic Religious Charities (BRC) are excluded from financial scoring because they are exempt from financial reporting obligations by law — a blank financial section is not a negative indicator for BRCs.
Scores are recomputed each time new data is published. The dataset update dates shown in the charity detail page indicate the source data vintage. Scores are not independently audited and do not constitute financial advice, legal advice, or an assessment of charitable impact.
Scores are designed to aid initial screening and research. They should be supplemented with review of the charity's ACNC register entry, audited financial statements, and other due diligence appropriate to the decision being made.
4. AI-generated content
Some features of this platform use large language models (LLMs) to generate narrative explanations, summaries, and comparisons. AI-generated content:
· may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information;
· reflects patterns in the underlying data rather than independent expert judgement;
· is not reviewed or approved by the ACNC or any government agency;
· should not be relied upon as legal, financial, or regulatory advice.
Where AI-generated content is shown, it is labelled as such. Always verify important claims against primary sources (the ACNC Charity Register and the charity's own financial statements).
5. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, DataColada and Data Products Factory accept no liability for any loss, damage, or adverse outcome arising from use of, or reliance on, information, scores, or AI content on this platform.
This platform is provided as is, without warranty of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Data currency depends on upstream ACNC dataset publication schedules, which are outside our control.
Nothing on this platform constitutes legal, financial, accounting, or professional advice. Decisions relating to charitable funding, investment, compliance, or governance should be made with the assistance of appropriately qualified professionals.
6. Quarterly rescoring
Credibility and Transparency scores are refreshed when the ACNC publishes updated quarterly datasets, typically in March, June, September, and December. Financial scores (Financial Health, Govt Dependency, Volunteer Intensity) are refreshed when the annual AIS dataset is published, typically mid-year.
Score changes between periods reflect changes in the underlying data and/or changes in the relative position of a charity within the scoring cohort. A score decrease does not necessarily indicate deterioration in a charity's operations — it may simply reflect that peer charities have improved.
7. Privacy
All charity data displayed on this platform is sourced from publicly available government datasets. No individual personal data is collected by this platform beyond standard web analytics. If you use the API with an API key, usage data is stored to enable credit billing and usage tracking. See our Privacy Policy for details.
